Week 22 Seniior Review

24 Sep 2017 by Dan Douglas

Here’s your last weekly review of the season. I kept you waiting for at as it such a good one (not really).

1st XI

The 1sts finished the season at sunny Freckleton. After winning the toss and giving Freck first use of the track they dismissed them for 92. The wickets were spread around but both Greenall and McDowell returned 3 for 24.

The batting hasn’t been all that reliable recently though so it wasn’t a massive surprise to see them still needing almost 50 with 6 wickets down. Luckily there was plenty of experience at the crease and as Helm blocked at one end Ian Simpson racked up an unbeaten 45 that saw them home despite the late loss of Helm. The result saw them finish 4th in the Premier Division which after a good start would have to go down as a disappointment.

Player of the week – Ian Simpson – 105 points

2nd XI

The 2nds entertained South Shore at a slightly damp Chipping Road. I imgaine LCC could have started worse but i’m not sure how. They were 5 down before the kettle had boiled and as batsmen scattered looking for pads the elder statesmen of the team calmed the situation down. Firstly Barton and Vinny Wilkinson (24) settled the ship and then skipper Nick Wilkinson (40*) put them into a reasonable position at half way as they were all out for 119.

South Shore’s reply was similarly chaotic. The only difference was nobody could get more that 21. The wickets fell steadily and they were all out for just 71. As ever the spinners did the damage. Dharmesh took 2 for 15 (before providing a tremendous curry for the masses) and Dan Wilson 6 for 14 to cap a tremendous season for him. This win meant the seconds won the league by 12 points to complete the double.

Player of the week – Dan Wilson – 128 points

3rd XI

Once again – it rained. We did play some cricket a while ago. It was fun.

Anyway the 3rds finished 7th which is a decent effort I would say. Next seasons reorganisation means they will stay in Division 2 with half of Division 3 coming up to join them (I think).

Player of the week – I’ve got nothing

4th XI

The 4ths rounded off their season at Whittle-le-woods. Whittle batted first and a good bowling effort saw the dismissed for 126. Plenty of good bowling performances but the pick was undoubtedly Jake Durnell who took 3 for 22. Not bad for such a young lad. Definiitely one for the future.

The batting didn’t go quite as well as LCC mustered just 61. Josh Blackhurst is also one for the future and he top scored with 15. This left them 9th in the table which is a good effort given the amount of players that they used.

Player of the week – Jake Durnell – 47 points

Overall player of the week – Dan Wilson – 128 points

Obviously no alcohol for Dan. I’m sure I can stretch to a can of pop though!
